What to Expect at Golden Gate Bridging

Travel and Hotels: Golden Gate Bridging is a great opportunity for girl-led activities. Girls are able and should help with planning the trip including travel to and from the Bay Area, where to stay, and what to do. Following registration, you will be provided with hotel and other information to help you plan.We have reserved blocks of rooms at hotels in popular tourist areas of San Francisco. Following registration, we provide information with ideas, suggestions, and resources to get you started. More information on how to plan your trip to S.F.

Check-in: Check-in happens the day of the event as well as several days prior to the event. All troops have the option to check in ahead of time at their own convenience. This helps to save time the day of the event. All troops are assigned a check-in time for the day of the event in case they do not complete early check-in. Check-in information and time assignments are sent by e-mail in early April.

Arrival and Parking: Due to very limited parking, we highly encourage troops to carpool to the event. Better yet, take public transportation or be dropped off. While we reserve as much parking as possible, we cannot guarantee a spot. Troops may arrive to the event in several different ways including by car, taxi, limo, public transportation, or charter bus. Troops may only arrive at the event starting point. If checking in the day of the event, troops must check in at their assigned time.

Shuttles to Marin Vista Point: Shuttles depart every 15–25 minutes from the starting point at the Main Post in the Presidio to transport participants to the Marin Vista Point on the north end of the bridge. Shuttles are free to all registered participants. Shuttles also depart from one of our reserved hotels for participants staying in any of our reserved hotels.

The Walk: Upon arrival at the Marin Vista Point, participants walk south across the Golden Gate Bridge. Girls are greeted and complete the bridging ceremony with pinning and the Girl Scout handshake. Participants continue down the hill towards the party at Crissy Field. After the party, participants walk back to the starting point for departure. Total walking distance is approximately 7 miles including the 1.7 mile bridge.

The Party: There are a variety of ways to celebrate on Crissy Field. Bring a lunch to enjoy in the grassy picnic area, do a craft project, dance along with great music, and explore dozens of activity booths, all designed to introduce girls to older girl opportunities. We end with a giant friendship circle before saying goodbye to new friends. You are welcome to leave whenever you’d like.

Departure: All participants must walk to the start/end point for departure. Troops being picked up may arrange to be picked up or meet people in the grassy area in front of the Disney Museum which is adjacent to the starting point. Troops may not be picked up from Crissy Field.

Special Note: A large-scale construction project to replace Doyle Drive/Highway 101 with the improved Presidio Parkway is currently underway. This project can significantly impact the logistics of Golden Gate Bridging. We are making every possible effort to plan a seamless and enjoyable experience; however, this may mean that changes could happen last minute. If any changes need to be made, we will e-mail all registered participants and volunteers with as much advance notice as possible. For the most up-to-date information on the project, check out
